Kids in Masks

Kids in Masks - Who Are You?

Here's a little Poem about Wearing a Mask and being YOU.

While wearing masks in public spaces,
It's hard to see our smiling faces.
So if we do this little task
You will know who's in the mask!

ACTIVITY:

1. Using the whole paper, draw your face.

2. Think of words that describe you. You can also think of sentences and things you like.

3. Write those under your face, like in the illustration.

4. Fold the bottom of the paper up to just under the eyes in your drawing.

5. On THAT side, draw a mask, like in this illustration.  Design your mask any way you want.

Now you can see the REAL you and YOU in a mask.

Learn how to Juggle

Learn how to Juggle

HOW do they do that??      Watch here!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TStg-ezWM3M

  1. 1. Before you start, choose a ball or object that is right with you.
  2. Tossing. Take one ball or one object in one hand and toss it in the air to the other hand. Try tossing your ball or object in different types of arks, some higher than others. Try tossing your ball or object in your dominant hand and then toss your ball or object in your non-dominant hand.
  3. Now, try tossing two balls or objects simultaneously. Start by step 2, but this time, toss the second ball or object in the air with your other hand. If you are struggling, try tossing your balls or objects higher to get a bigger ark.
  4. Step 3 was the exchange. Now let’s put 3 balls or objects in the air to really start juggling. It is same concept as the previous steps, but this time you toss 3 balls or objects in the air. One hand starts with 2 balls or objects in it, while the other hand only has 1 ball or object. The hand that has the 2 balls or objects in it, starts tossing one ball or object first. Instead of catching the second ball or object toss the third ball or object in the air. Continue tossing all the balls or objects in the air by switching hands and balls/objects,
  5. Practice, practice, practice.
Here is another video to help you...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxzSHRbLAx4

This takes a LOT of practice, so be PATIENT with yourself!

Have fun, and remember NOT to try this near a lamp to anything else that is breakable. Give yourself plenty of space!

Thanks, Dr. Lauren Holzberg

  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) buttermilk*
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 3 Tbsp (42g) melted butter
  • 3 - 4 cups vegetable oil, for frying

  1. Preheat oil in a deep saute pan or pot over medium heat.

Easy Finger Puppets

Easy Finger Puppets

What's your favorite animal or book character?

You can make a simple puppet of it by following these directions.

You need:

A drawing or print out of your animal or character.  You can find thousands of images by searching in your browser and looking for images. Clip art images are even more simple designs. Here are some I used when I looked for Rhinoceros.

Be sure your print or drawing is bigger than your hand.

Color or draw, paint, or print your picture.

Carefully, cut around the edge of your picture.

Near the feet (or where you imagine the feet to be, make 2 dots that are slightly larger than your fingers.
(See Photo)

You can put clear tape on the back before you cut the dots out, to make the paper stronger.
Now make your puppet walk or dance by putting your fingers through the holes.

Clean up the paper scraps and Put on your play!

Can you retell a story using your puppets? Share with your friends and families. Maybe someone will make a video for you!

Share your idea with someone else and make more puppets.

Don't forget to share this web site with other friends and family members. There are so many ideas for you to enjoy. THANKS.

POEMS ABOUT FRIENDSHIP

POEMS  ABOUT  FRIENDSHIP

A Friend Is A Treasure  Poet Unknown

A friend is someone we turn to
when our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure,
for our friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives,
with beauty, joy and grace.
And make the world we live in,
                                                                    a better and happier place.

Forever Friends  By Amber S. Pence

The friendship we have is so rare to find.
We hate to see each other in a bind.
We have made each other laugh so hard we’ve cried.
We feel each other’s pain if we are hurt inside.
We always can find the right words to say
To help us get through any dreadful day.
We have told our darkest secrets with feeling no shame,
We will tell each other the truth, even if we are to blame.
Thinking of you not being here makes me feel so sad.
We will have to look back on our crazy memories to make us glad.
The miles between us can’t keep us apart,
Because we will keep each other close at heart.

The Best of Friends By: Å  Jill Wolf

The best of friends,
Can change a frown,
Into a smile,
when you feel down.
The best of friends,
Will understand,
Your little trials,
And lend a hand.
The best of friends,
Will always share,
Your secret dreams,
Because they care.
The best of friends,
Worth more than gold,
Give all the love,
A heart can hold.

When you and I Grow Up   by Kate Greenaway

When you and I
Grow up-Polly-
I mean that you and me,
Shall go sailing in a big ship
Right over all the sea.
We'll wait till we are older,
For if we went today,
You know that we might lose ourselves
And never find the way.

ACTIVITY: What do you like about your friends?
Make a list of words that describe your friends. What activities do you do together? What makes them good friends? Are YOU a good friend to them?

Try to put your ideas together and write a poem about them.

Maybe draw or paint a picture of you together.

Don't forget to share!

LOOK for more activities about friends in this BLOG.

A Sick Day for Amos McGee - Read Aloud Video

A Sick Day for Amos McGee - Read Aloud Video

Amos doesn't feel well. His friends try to help him feel better. One of his friends is a rhinoceros!

ACTIVITY:

What do your family members do for one another when someone is not feeling well?

Make a list of what helps YOU feel better. Then decide if those things would help Amos.

If you know someone who is not feeling well, you could make a card to help cheer her or him up.

REMEMBER:
This is a time to be VERY careful with germs.
If you sneeze or cough, turn your head away from other people.
Cover your mouth (with a tissue, if possible). Then throw the tissue in the trash.

WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN.

Be safe - no one likes to need a sick day! Not even Amos!

Collage from Leaves and Seeds

Collage from Leaves and Seeds

Now that everyone is back outside, there are many nature crafts you can make.

ACTIVITY: While walking outdoors, pick up some leaves, seeds, pinecones, branches, berries, and acorns, or anything else from nature. Maybe you will be lucky enough to even find a feather!

Put these in a bag to take home.

You will need: Glue, paste, or a glue stick. (You can use a glue guy with adult supervision).

Use your imagination about things in nature. Then try to create it using the materials you found outside.

Can you make a tree, for instance? or a bird? or even a rhinoceros?

Here are some nature creations other people have made. Can you name each one?

What will YOU make?

TIP:  Move your pieces around on the paper BEFORE YOU ARE FINISHED. Only use the adhesive when you know where you want each piece to be.

Hold a family art show!
