(The R is for Ray and the D is for Deb!)
We are avid fans of children's books and creativity. We love sharing our favorites with others, so we developed this site to provide resources to children, families, and educators around the world!Ray is an instructor of art and Deb is a professor of literacy education, teacher preparation, an educational consultant, and a former elementary school teacher. She teaches undergraduates who are studying to become elementary teachers and current teachers working toward a M.Ed. in elementary education.
We have developed the idea for this site to provide resources, read aloud videos, author sites, art activities, and ideas for families to use with children ages 5-12, to develop literacy and creativity.
The books we use are ones we really like. The books will be fairly simple, but the activities can be for any level. The idea is to ENJOY the reading experience and extend creativity.
We want to share the joy of reading and developing critical and creative thinking. We think that when children (and families) try our activities, they will enjoy reading as a recreational activity, free from vocabulary tests or reading comprehension questions to answer.
So look through the posts (we are working on ways to increase our collection) and find a book and try the activities we present. There are also other things to explore, like virtual trips to museums, monuments, and even possibly your own neighborhood.
Everything will be organized as: Books, Book Activities, Art Activities, and Resources, etc.
We hope to hear from you and that you will enjoy what we have put together.
