Reading to young children promotes language acquisition and literacy development. Reading aloud with children also positively impacts achievement in reading comprehension and overall success in school, later on.
Take time to read with your children. The stories can be simple, silly, fables, fiction, fairy tales, biography. It doesn't matter. Just READ together.
Let your children choose books THEY would like to read. That makes them feel important.
Choice makes a difference in their attention, interested, and motivation.

Look at the pictures. Be SURE children can see the words and the pictures while you are
reading. These give important clues to the story. Seeing the words and illustrations helps
children make sense of what they are hearing.
Point to important words. Ask casual questions throughout the story. Have children make
predictions about what might happen next. But do not make this feel like a test!
Maybe the experience relaxing and fun. Reading this way helps children learn to enjoy
reading for pleasure, and not only for school work.
YOU have the opportunity to create life-long readers.
Enjoy!
