The Day the Crayons Quit - read aloud video

The Day the Crayons Quit - read aloud video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hrd-Wdxbg-Q

Activity:  Why were the crayons upset? How do you feel about their complaints? What would YOU do?

Get some paper, and look around your room. What would happen if your favorite toy quit? What would you do?

How about if at the dinner table, your SPOON quit? Would the fork be upset, too?

Draw a picture of something that quits on you.
Write a few sentences describing the problem, and what you need to do about it to make things better.

You might even want to write these stories in letters, like in the book. Put your letters and pictures together to make a book. Share with your family and friends.

I Want My Hat Back - Theater Performance

I Want My Hat Back - Theater Performance

A wonderful interpretation of John Klassen's book.

A bear searches for his missing hat in the bestselling, multiple award-winning picture book debut of Jon Klassen. In his bestselling debut picture book, the multiple award-winning Jon Klassen, illustrator. His other books are: This Is Not My Hat and Sam and Dave Dig a Hole.

Watch it here:

ACTIVITY: Wasn't this a great performance? It only took ONE person to use the puppets.

Make a picture of a favorite book character, and tell her or his story using the picture as a puppet. Get your family and friends to be your audience. Of course, you need to know the story very well, so you might have to rehearse a few times (that means practice).

Make up another performance with a friend or family member!

THE DOT

THE DOT by Peter H. Reynolds

THIS GREAT STORY HELPS TO SEE HOW OUR IDEAS CAN START SMALL AND WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OTHER'S LIVES.

ACTIVITY:  You need watercolor paints or water color markers. paper, and a nice place to sit (maybe outside).

Listen to and watch the story video. Talk about it with someone. What did the child do? How did the teacher help her?

How did Vashti help the boy in the story?

Make a dot on your paper. What can it be? Make some more... and more...

Imagination and creativity... and helping a friend...

Collage Design

Collage Design

Eric Carle (who wrote and illustrated the book I posted yesterday) has a phenomenal web page. He shows how his ideas come to be bookstand illustrations.

Today, take a look at the page of From Head to Toe (the post for 6/25/2020) and read how his ideas became real. Then look at his sketched of the book. Go back and reread the book from yesterday, and see if you can see his ideas more clearly.

ACTIVITY. Glue a picture of yourself onto a piece of paper or cardboard. Then create a collage of your favorite idea above it. You may use this illustration of Eric as an idea.

Have fun!

Free Rice - Game

Play a game and your points help to donate FREE rice to people round the world...

The World Food Program (https://www.wfp.org) will donate rice for every question you get correct.

That's right... the game is FREE to you, and while you are learning and playing, you are also doing a good deed for others.

How does Freerice work?

As you play Freerice and answer questions right, advertisements appear on your screen. When you see one of these advertisements, you trigger a financial payment to the World Food Programme (WFP) to support its work saving and changing lives around the world.

In the game, these payments are represented via grains of rice. The amount of money generated when you see an advertisement can vary, but is roughly equivalent to what the World Food Programme spends to purchase 10 grains of rice.

By playing, you are generating the money that pays for this rice. This money is used for many types of assistance — not just rice — depending on where needs are greatest. Regardless of the type of assistance, you can be sure that 100% of all funds generated on Freerice go to the World Food Programme, and 93.5% of every payment received by the World Food Programme goes directly towards helping children and their families. Freerice does not earn or keep any money it raises. You can learn more about the different ways the World Food Programme is funded here

Make a Scrapbook

Make a Scrapbook

Watch the video read aloud of a book I love: Zoe Sophia's Scrapbook

IllustratorClaudia Mauner
PublisherChronicle Books
Word Count: 2278
TumbleTime: 18 minutes 30 seconds

I love how Zoe Sophia keeps journal of all the places she goes and memorabilia, like and ticket stubs.

ACTIVITY: You need:

      markers,  crayons, pencils, colored pencils
paper (you can use a grocery bag, like the one to the right),
      photos,
      glue
      MEMORIES

Think of what you want to include in the book. You can always add more pages later, so I suggest you start simply.

Use the book and the pictures above to help you decide on your memories of special times, places you have visited, people you care about, sporting events, favorite stories or movies, etc.

You might even want to include your memories of the time at home.

Add pictures, drawings, doodles, stickers. Look for more scrapbook ideas on the Internet.
