Friendship Stones - Craft

Friendship Stones

A fun craft

Valentine's Day has several other new names that make is not only for romantic love. Have you heard "Palentines" Day (PAL)?  or GALentines Day (gal)?

I always think of my closest friends on Valentine's Day because, well, I love them, too.

So this is a great time to let those you care about know that YOU think THEY are special.

NOTE: This project will only take about 10 minutes, but it might take overnight to dry.

You need:

Small stones (think of something that can sit on their desk or bureau) (1 for each gift)

Red acrylic paint, or poster paint, or finger paint, or a red tamp pad

old newspaper or something to protect the work surface from spills

Paper towels

A black permanent marker (like a Sharpie)

Optional: Clear nail polish or spray varnish or hair spray

Step-by-step

1. Dust off the stones. Think about where you can put the heart.

2. Put a small amount of paint in a container or paper plate (or use the stamp pad)

3. Gently dip the flat part of your index finger in the paint (or on the stamp pad).

4. Gently place the flat part of your finger on the RIGHT portion of the stone (see the photo above).

5. Repeat step 3.

6. Gently place the flat part of your finger on the LEFT portion of the stone (see the photo above).

7. LET THE PAINT OR INK DRY.

8. Repeat for as many stones as you have.

Wipe your hands on the paper towel and clean up.

Let the stones dry for a few hours.

Using the SHARPIE, draw facial expressions and arms and legs (see the photo above to inspire you).

Write your name and the date on the back.

Coat the surface with clear nail polish or take it pursued and spray with clear varnish or hair spray. You might need hep with this part.

Let dry overnight.

Share your gift with someone you love.

Palindromes

 Palindrome  -  WORD PLAY

Oh I love to play with words... Even day I play Words with Friends, and an Italian word game, called Free Rice.

So today I am posting about Palindromes. These are fun words, phrases, or sentences (or numbers) that are the same going backwards, as they are going forward.

pal·in·drome
/ˈpalənˌdrōm/
noun
  1. a word, phrase, or sequence that reads the same backward as forward, e.g., madam or nurses run.

DATES, can also be in palindrome style:

Sunday – 02/02/2020 – is the first “global” palindrome since 11/11/1111. Unlike other palindromic dates, such as 10/02/2001, 2 February, 2020 is considered a global palindrome because it is exactly the same written both in the DD/MM/YYYY format as well as the US standard of MM/DD/YYYY.

They are so fun. You KNOW I love ITALY, so here is one of my FAVORITE palindromes:

                                            An Italian palindrome:   Amore, Roma.

Here are a bunch... Have fun reading them and seeing the patterns.

Penguin story and new craft

Penguin story and new craft

On  Mar 23, 2020, my friend, Ellie made a read aloud video of the story of Tacky the Penguin.

It feels cold enough to see penguins, so I thought you might enjoy the video.

I also have an easy craft for you about penguins.

You need:

scissors, some paper, glue, and your OWN TWO HANDS!

Trace your hand (have someone help, if you need it) onto black paper, or paper you can paint or color black.

Cut TWO handprints out carefully.

Cut two circles that will fit inside the palm of the handprints.

Glue the white bellies in the middle of the black handprint. Add some eyes.  Even some snowflakes!

Use this picture to guide you.

Can you tell or write a story about YOUR two penguins?

Thanks to "It's always Autumn" on Facebook.

How to make a Paper Heart - Craft Video

How to make a Paper Heart

craft video

You need:

Paper (scrap, construction, craft, or even pages from old magazines)

                                                        Scissors

Paste or glue or glue stick

This is an EASY way to get your heart to be symmetrical.

Draw a half heart on a folded piece of paper. Che sure the paper is folded in half.

Follow the steps in the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMniwemdEHA

Cut out many hearts for your future projects. Then look for ideas on how to use them - or think up your OWN ideas.

Be sure to clean up any mess you have made.

Valentine's Day is Feb. 14th.

What can you make from hearts? - Craft

What can you make from hearts?

- Craft

On Jan. 29, 2021, I posted an idea to make hearts cut from magazine pages.

Now I challenge you to think of things you can MAKE with the hearts.

Here, I made a flower. I can think of putting 5-6 hearts in a curvy line to make a caterpillar.

Or to stake several to make layered hearts with a button in the middle.

WHAT can YOU do with hearts?   Have fun.
